The Madness of March

I don’t know about you, but my family gets a little excited in March.  Ever since I can remember, basketball was a pretty big deal in my house.  With my dad being a Mizzou Tiger and my mom being a (gasp!) Kansas Jayhawk, ballgames were a huge affair!  When I was little, I would peek at my dad’s bracket and wonder, “what on earth does that all mean?”  In more recent years, I began to fill out my own bracket.  Dad showed me his method of highlighting the teams he had picked that won and crossing out the ones he got wrong, writing in the winning team.

Now that I’ve gone to college and have my very own team to root for, I don’t get caught up in the KU/MU rivalry so much anymore (although I considered going to Kansas for grad school, so I am a bit partial to them).  It’s interesting now, because I’m still caught between a pretty heated rivalry:  Duke and UNC.  Mike, being a grad student at Duke, takes precedence, but there are an awful lot of people at Christ Church who are born and bred Tarheels!  I try to stay out of that one as much as I can… Florida State is my team, and I root for them over everybody else.  Go NOLES!

***Sidenote:  my mom pointed out to me that Kansas and FSU could play each other if they both win their next game.  Yikes!

My friend Caitlin told me the other day about her friend who writes out their entire bracket supersized on a wall of their house (in washable crayon).  Is that crazy or what?  You should check out their blog post about it.  It kind of makes me want to do that, too… or at least make team-themed cupcakes.  (That sounds up your alley, Jill!)

Who do you pull for?  Or do you even care about basketball?  That was one of the most shocking things of when I lived in the Bahamas– no one followed college basketball (or football)!  It makes sense… but was part of my “culture shock” I suppose.  Anyway, share your team!  Who do you think is going to win this year?

You can see who I think will be National Champ…
