Off to market we go…

After my eye-opening trip to the farm last Friday, I was pumped about finding fresh food.  Where did we turn?  The farmer’s market, of course!

Durham is known for its awesome farmer’s market, and they are just this week starting their Wednesday afternoon hours in addition to Saturday morning!

We browsed everything, and then finally settled on some strawberries from Lyon Farms.

Let me tell you, these strawberries are heaven-sent!  I have never in my life had strawberries that tasted like this before.  It will be awfully hard to go back to store-bought berries once you’ve tasted some of these… YUM!

You can’t really tell in the photo, but these baskets were HUGE.  I mean, I had no idea what to do with the abundance of delicious red berries in my kitchen… so I popped on over to Allrecipes to see what I could find.  I happened upon this recipe that called for some fresh strawberries, and went for it!  They were so yummy, and I had plenty of fruit left over for some afternoon grazing.

Who knows if I’ll be blogging again this week, because my folks just got into town yesterday!!  There’s no doubt I’ll have some fun adventures to share on here after a week with them… hooray!

Farmer’s markets are the best!! And our mascot at school are the “Lyons” because we were founded by Mary Lyon- cool beans about the farm name!
