Welcome to Daylight Photography!

My name is Mary Day Saou, and I enjoy living in Durham, North Carolina with my boys: Mike (my husband), Noah (our son), and Wesley (our awesome Royal Bahamian Potcake). Life has been ever-changing for us, starting with college at Florida State University, to two years in the Abacos of the Bahamas, and now living in the triangle area. It's so nice to be able to experience seasons again, and we're loving life in North Carolina.

Photography has always been something I enjoyed, but it was only when my husband encouraged me to take that leap into pro-land (and ok'd the investment that goes with it!) that I dove into the wedding and portrait industry.

My #1 goal with DP is to join you in capturing those moments that make life so precious. Often it's a combination of the big events - like a wedding - and spending time with your children, or taking a walk with someone you love. I truly cherish getting to savor those rich times with each person who asks me to document an event.

The Civil Wars

Right now, the air is chilly and a storm is thundering outside… I’m quite content to be indoors, dry, and listening to some great tunes.

I was so grateful to be on my friend Lizzie‘s radio show last weekend. What an honor– she wanted to interview ME for 2 hours about a list of top 10 songs I had picked! We had a blast, and I loved talking about old favorites from Patty Griffin to Andy Davis and lots in between. Hopefully an mp3 of the show will be online soon!

Sidenote about Lizzie: she is awesome. She’s super passionate about nonviolence and making a difference in the world, and it would behoove you to check out her blog.

Oddly enough, tonight my soothing tunes weren’t featured on that top 10 list, but The Civil Wars are fast approaching the top of my “must-play” list these days. If they sound familiar but you can’t say why, you may have heard their tune “Poison & Wine” on Gray’s Anatomy a little while back. A guy/girl duo who have crazy raw talent and rich harmonies, these two have an unmatched sound. Mike and I joke that we will become the next Civil Wars. Look out, guys…

I wanted to share Barton Hollow with you all because it was the song that Mike and I heard them do live on This American Life a couple weeks ago. Now I REALLY want to see them live, because even just hearing them live on the radio was fantastic!

you know she is joy williams. she was a pretty popular christian artist back when we were in high school. and he totally looks like johnny depp!
